Wild Republic is a new online marketplace for sustainable homeware & gifts with an emphasis on innovative design and supporting local makers.  The store was launched in October 2022 by Capetonian Taryn Blignaut after she struggled to find unique and eco-friendly homeware for her home renovation project.  Most customers don't realise that a lot of furniture and home decor sold by the 'big brand' stores is actually toxic to their homes and made offshore using unfair labour practices and pollutant materials.  In the same way that fast fashion is a big issue for the environment, Taryn believes that fast homeware is highly problematic and has flown under the radar until recently.

Realising that the design industry can be a bit intimidating to many South Africans, Taryn decided to fill the gap, providing a curated store to offer beautiful, eco-friendly home products from companies who care.  When sourcing products, Taryn looks for high quality homeware that is made from upcycled, recycled and organic materials.  Turning something wasteful into something useful is awesome, but transforming it into something gorgeous and practical is inspiring.  Wild Republic aims to bridge the gap between customers' needs and the makers that may not have the time or resources to promote their products.

In addition to being eco-friendly, the products are made by craftsmen or businesses that employ sustainable business practices such as direct trade, fair trade, upskilling, women empowerment and charity.  Our aim is to convert more South Africans to supporting local businesses making unique, quality products that will last for years to come.
